The snow has melted, the heavy coats are tucked away and the school year is winding down. Summer is almost here! At Jumoke Academy in Hartford, we’re looking forward to fun in the sun too… but we’re also doing our part to help beat the dreaded summer “brain drain” with our 2017 Summer Academy!
According to the National Summer Learning Association, children stand to lose close to three months of reading skills and about two months of math skills over the summer break. This is especially true for low-income families who often struggle to find affordable summer care. These same families often lose access to healthy meals once school is out. It’s estimated that six out of every seven students who receive free-and-reduced-price-lunches during the school year lose access to healthy foods over the summer, making learning and retaining information even tougher.
That’s why this summer, we’re opening our doors to kids in grades K to 8 who want to have fun and learn too! Our four-week Summer Academy will help kids overcome summer learning loss by providing an experience that is not only fun but educational as well.
This year, Jumoke’s 2017 Summer Academy will run from June 26 to July 21. Each morning, scholars will have reading and math literacy classes to sharpen the skills they’ve learned throughout the school year. But each afternoon, scholars will have the opportunity to take part in lots of fun activities, including but not limited to, visual arts, crafts, dance, vocal training, guitar, keyboards, DJ training and more!
Plus, each Friday scholars will take field trips to historic locations throughout Hartford, learning more about the rich history of our state. Scholars will also receive FREE breakfast and lunch every day. If you’re a Hartford resident, you may also be able to receive bus transportation.
Again, this program isn’t just for Jumoke scholars, it is open to ALL! So we encourage you to click here for more information to see if our Summer Academy is right for your family!
Registration is open now, and can be accessed by clicking here. Tuition for the entire four-week program is $400.00 per child, with a $150.00 deposit due upon application. The payment must be made in full by June 9. You can also take advantage of our early bird pricing discount, which brings the tuition down to $385 per child if paid in full by May 19.

Here’s to a fun, safe, healthy and educational summer!
